A quick email to announce details of the Structures at Risk Scheme for 2015 as well as details regarding the 2015 Grant Aid for projects on the Government Policy on Architecture. Details are included under the relevant headings below. It is expected that there will more news on heritage funding in the coming weeks and details of same will be provided once available. Also a quick reminder to all of those community/heritage groups that the closing date for the Cork County Council Municipal District Grant Scheme is today fortnight, the 27th of February, and it is hoped that a number of heritage themed proposals are put forward for same (details also set out below).
Also worthy of mention, and particularly for those wildlife enthusiasts amongst us, is that a draft Pollinator Plan has been recently brought out by the National Biodiversity Data Centre. More details on this are included under the relevant heading below.
In addition to the above news there are also some very interesting events taking place over the coming days, in particular the 1916 discussion workshop in Kilmurry Museum tomorrow afternoon, and talks in Ballineen and Ballincollig on Monday 16th February regarding Railways and the Great Houses respectively. It is also intended that there will be a public workshop on the heritage of the Múscraí Gaeltacht taking place in Ballyvourney and Ballingeary on Saturday 21st February and details of this will be posted on the events section of Cork County Council’s heritage website early next week once details have been confirmed.

STRUCTURES AT RISK SCHEME 2015
Cork County Council is now inviting applications under the Structures at Risk Fund, 2015. This scheme was introduced by the Department of Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht and the amount of funding being made available nationally is €624,000, to be divided amongst the 31 Irish Local Authorities.
The purpose of the Structures at Risk Fund (SRF) is to assist with works to safeguard structures protected under the Planning and Development Act 2000 (as amended); including works to proposed protected structures, and in certain cases, works to safeguard structures within Architectural Conservation Areas, where, in the opinion of the Department, an urgent need for works to such structures has arisen and has been demonstrated. Only structures in immediate danger of significant deterioration will qualify for consideration for funding by the Department. The scheme is not intended to assist in the carrying out of routine maintenance, alterations or improvements.
Due to limited capital resources available only two applications from each Local Authority will be accepted for consideration by the Department of Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht.
The attached document outlines the operation of the scheme and includes the relevant application forms. Anyone interested in applying must ensure their application (completed form together with accompanying documents such as photographs, method statements, etc.) is submitted to the Heritage Unit of Cork County Council, no later than 16.00 on Friday the 13th of March 2015, in order to comply with the timescales set out by the Department of Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht, for this scheme. Applications will be assessed under the criteria of the scheme. Two applications will then be chosen for submission to the Department of Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht for consideration of funding. Please be advised that incomplete or late application forms will not be accepted under any circumstances.
All applications shall be submitted to the Heritage Unit, Planning Department, Floor 3, County Hall, by16:00 on Friday the 13th of March 2013. The submission must include an electronic version of the application and associated documents, the size of which shall not exceed 15MB.

GRANT AID UNDER THE GOVERNMENT POLICY ON ARCHITECTURE 2009 – 2015
The Department of Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht has just announced a call for proposals for funding of projects as they relate to the Government Policy on Architecture 2009 – 2015. This policy “provides the appropriate framework for architectural policy in Ireland, placing an emphasis on sustainable development of the environment and urban design, incorporating architectural heritage in a holistic integrated manner”. €80,000 is being made available in 2015 for projects that are in support of the Policy actions. These actions are set out in the attached document (policy actions) and a list of the successful applications in 2014 is included here for informational purposes. Please note that financial assistance from the Department of Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht will not exceed 80% of the estimated overall cost of delivering a project. All terms and conditions are set out in the attached document (terms and conditions) and please be advised that the closing date for receipt of applications by the Department isMonday 30th March 2015. “Applications, including any supplementary material, will be accepted in softcopy format (ideally .pdf or .doc) by email to architecture@ahg.gov.ie. The email subject should be entitled “GPA Grant Aid 2015″ and include the project name. The size of the email should not exceed 15MB”.

CORK COUNTY COUNCILS’ MUNICIPAL DISTRICT GRANTS 2015
Cork County Council, through its Municipal Districts, is committed to supporting local communities. Grants from the above Schemes will be available as financial support to community groups and local organisations wishing to undertake development projects in their area, to support festivals, and for local communities to work with Cork County Council on projects that enhance the area in which the group is active. There are three distinct funding Schemes, announced today 30/01/15:
- Capital Grant Scheme
- Community Contracts
- Amenity Grant Scheme
A number of heritage projects will in principle fall under these schemes. Past examples of successful projects include PA equipment for heritage groups; cleaning of heritage monuments, restoration of stone walls, conservation works to buildings, heritage/tourist signage and plaques, walking trails, contribution to festivals, erection of memorials, etc.

ALL-IRELAND DRAFT POLLINATOR PLAN
The National Biodiversity Data Centre has recently brought out a draft All-Ireland Pollinator Plan for wider consultation. The plan provides an important framework to bring together pollinator initiatives across the island of Ireland, and is the start of a process by which we can collectively take positive steps to protect Irish pollinators and the service they provide into the future. Pollinators are hugely important from a biodiversity perspective supporting the ecology of many areas and adding to the wealth of wildlife which exists in Ireland.
